A crew from South Cerney won the annual Dragon Boat racing in Bath on Sunday 2nd July 2006. It was the first time that we had entered this event, buoyed up from our victory at our annual local event at the SCOEC lake in the autumn of last year.

The event was a great success. The weather was a bit hot, but it was a very nice setting at Newbridge in Bath on the bank of the Kennett & Avon Navigation. There were 23 crews who between them raised over £27,000 for the Anthony Nolan Trust – (the highest ever at this event, I believe).
Each crew had three heats (aptly named, due to the temperature!), and our aggregate time placed us in the top four, to reach the next round – the semi finals. We only just won our semi – by a dragon’s head – despite recording our fastest time of the day. The final was also very close, but we won by a quarter of a length, (and then we had a beer, because we were quite thirsty).
